Swim Meets

Why participate in Swim meets?

We encourage all of our swimmers to participate in as many swim meets as possible. Competitions are a very important experience for all swimmers.

Meets give swimmers an opportunity to demonstrate what they’ve learned at a competitive level, and they let swimmers and coaches know how they are progressing with their training.

Because swim meets are measured (timed), they are a great opportunity for swimmers to set goals and measure their improvements over time. While it may feel like they are competing against other swimmers because the races are organized in heats, it’s important to remember that every swimmer is at their own level, and they are also competing against their own previous times and trying to make progress throughout the season.

Aside from the competition and training, swim meets are also a great way to get to know your teammates, make new friends, show support for other swimmers, and feel like part of a team in relay competitions. Unlike most practices, swim meets allow swimmers to interact socially, and are a highlight of training and team spirit.

Payments

Each swim meet is paid “a-la-carte” based on the swimmer’s participation. Fees are individual based on the numbers of races that the swimmer participates in.

All swim meet payments are expected immediately upon registration.

Please note that once your swimmer has registered for a meet, S.C.A.T. is required to pay the host team the meet fee for every swimmer registered.

If given enough notice, the host team can remove the swimmer for the meet and payments will not be required. If you passed the deadline date, whether you are ill, injured or if you don’t show up, you must still pay.

S.C.A.T is a non-profit organization and doesn’t have available funds to cover the cost of swimmers who are not in attendance. Refusal to pay the fees will prevent the swimmer to swim in any future swim meets.

Swim Meet Process

1. A complete listing of swim meets that SCAT will be attending for each season is available on our website. This list is always subject to change.

2. Several weeks prior to each meet, the meet manager will send out information pertaining to the event; including name, location, cost, sessions, events, cut-off date and a copy of the meet package.

3. Sheets with meet information will be printed and available for handout at practices. The goal is to raise interest in attending swim meets in order to justify the cost of our team attending. Swimmers can direct questions pertaining to each meet to any of our coaches.

4. A copy of the meet package will be posted on the SCAT information board at HG Brewster.

5. Entries will be submitted to the meet manager using Swim Meet Event Form via Google Forms.

6. Meet manager will submit all entries to the host team for review. Upon approval, meet manager will email entry and fee reports to SCAT parents.

7. Meet manager will collect payments as above for the fees owing on the fee report.

8. After meet completion and once the results have been posted on Swimming Canada, links to these results will be posted on our website as well.

9. Coach may send a follow-up email to review and summarize the event.
